As I have explained many times here I do not know the bible well. I know a few of the big verses but by and large I have tried hard to avoid the bible. Not that I am against some of its teachings but I think a lot of people twist the words in the bible to fit what they want it to mean.
I do know that a lot of people use the bible to prove that god does not like homosexuality. I’m not sure where it says this but many bible thumpers seem to think it’s in there.
I was surprised to run across this blog today, c4him.com. I didn’t dig into the blog but read a couple of posts on the front page.
Her youngest daughter is graduating soon from high school and like all parents she is worried about her future and the decisions she will have to make. She finds comfort in this verse from Philippians (whoever they are) 2:13
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
She goes on to give her take on the passage:
I love the way this translation reads. It makes so much sense.
God has given us the desires that began when we were just children… it might have been singing, dancing, art, crafts, flowers, building, cooking, making people laugh….
Whatever it was that brought us the most joy may have had the hidden key to our divine plan.
As long as our young people continue in their faith, seeking God and staying in communion with Him, then they can trust that the desire in their heart is planted there by God, and that He will give them the power to follow that dream.
I don’t know how this person feels about homosexuality but if she is anything like her brethren she probably thinks they are abominations, sinners, perverts etc… Yet the passage and her take on it fly in the face of the belief that god hates fags. In fact it proves what I have said for years that if there is a god he made everyone just as he wanted them to be.
In the previous post she has inserted an image of some religious dude strumming on what looks like a very large penis. Those ancient religious dudes could sure play a mean penis. Maybe I just need more sleep but I find both of these post rather amusing.
As I read a little more of her blog I noticed that indeed she is not fond of homosexuals. Big surprise.

I came across a website (which I’ll have to look for again because it was saved on the deceased laptop) where someone had painstakingly looked up all the passages in the bible that are frequently interpreted by bible thumpers as saying that the bible is against homosexuality, and this person interprets them in another way, that proves the bible is not against homosexuality and he goes on to point out passages that refer to homosexuality that are not negative.
My computer time today is just about up, but when I find the site I’ll post it here. (Might be tomorrow.)
GOD hates all sin, but loves the sinner! John 3:16 says, For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS one and only SON, that whosoever believes in HIM shall not perish, but have eternal life.
I am a devoted Christian. I believe JESUS came to save everyone, and HE truly loves everyone. Homosexuals too! Homosexuality is not more of a sin than stealing, killing or heterosexuals having sex out of wedlock. To GOD they are all equal. The BIBLE says that breaking one commandment is breaking them all. It only takes one to keep a person out of HEAVEN.
You see, GOD’s standard is perfect, because HE is perfect, but Adam and Eve disobeyed GOD and infected all human kind with sin sickness. Most people do not believe they are sin sick and that is why we have the 10 commandments to show us what sin is. It allows us to see ourselves the way GOD sees us. If a person has lied, stolen, killed, used GOD’s name as a curse word or used irreverently, committed adultery, (includes all sexual sin) worships idols, or has another GOD, does not keep the Sabbath day HOLY, honors their mom and dad, or wants what someone else has, they are storing up wrath for themselves.
Breaking one of these stores up wrath for anyone who breaks them, but truthfully, we all break them, and none are perfect,we are all heading for the lake of fire. BUT…
What JESUS did on the cross was a legal transaction. We broke the law (ten commandments) and JESUS stepped into the courtroom of forever and paid our fine in HIS life’s blood and now the law has no more hold on us and GOD can legally set us free. All you have to do is turn from your sin, and ask HIM to forgive you of you sin, and trust in HIM forever. Not only Did HE set us free, but HE also wants us to spend eternity with HIM in perfect unity.
Those so-called Christians who picket and spew hate are from Satan himself to discredit true Christians and cause pain onto the people they are picketing. True Christians love everyone! Homosexuals included! JESUS came for EVERYONE, and it ills me to know that JESUS is being misrepresented by these haters. If you are a Christian, please pray for them, we are to love our enemies and pray for them.
It upsets me to think that homosexuals think Christians hate them. True Christians do not.
Wow! I think I wrote a book!! Sorry! I guess I had a bit to say on the subject.
GOD Bless You!
God hates SIN since He is HOLY. Holy means complete, without blemish, without fault, and perfect. Homosexuality is just one of many sins. In the Bible it is even said if any breaks the least of the commandments he is guilty of breaking them all. That means if anyone deserves hell, it is everybody.
It is through JESUS that man could be saved since he bore the sins of the world for us.
Man however has a choice, it is either to give up his sins and follow the ways of God and live or live his life just as he wants it but pay the penalty of his sins.
Lola, I’d love to see it. Let me know when you find it.
Donna, I’m sorry I just don’t agree with you on your interpretation of the bible. And there isn’t enough room to go into here. To each his own. If I am going to hell, and I am based on your interpretation for I have commited adultery (sex out of wedlock, I never cheated), I don’t keep the Sabbath holy, not even sure which day it is, seems to me Saturday is for the jews, but I work everyday and don’t have a choice because has not let me win the lottery yet. I respect your belief but I think it is silly. My prerogative. I’m please to know you think the Phelps nuts are just that. I don’t think all Christians hate homosexuals but a good many of them do or are scared of them for reasons I don’t understand. I know a lot of Christian men who are gay in traditional marriages. No one is safe.
The lights herald, ditto as above. I do have one question for you what is with the capitalization of the words HOLY, JESUS etc. Are you yelling at me or is that how those words must be written?
Jen,
I am sorry if I came across rude in any way. That is not how I meant any of it.
You may not believe what I said, but you are not disagreeing with me, you are disagreeing with GOD’s HOLY WORD. (I Capitalize them out of respect for GOD and HIS WORD!)
When people take the WORD and rearrange to fit themselves, they are breaking the first and second commandment. You are making a god to fit your sin. The god you have created in your mind does not exist, that is why he will not send you to the lake of fire for homosexuality. He can’t, he is not real, but the ONE TRUE LIVING GOD will. If you have not truly repented and turned from your sin, the lake of fire will be in store. Whatever sin it may be. Please understand that I am not judging or being mean. I just want people to know the TRUTH.
Where does it say that it is ok to be gay? I have never read that, but I have read where it says that a man shall not lay with a man and woman shall not lay with a woman. There are other verses that say that homosexuality in sin, also it says in Revelations 21:8 that all people who practice sexual sin will have their place in the lake of fire. I tell you this to warn you. I do not want you to go the lake of fire. Please believe me! I really care for everyone. GOD is serious! HE will judge and many will be shocked to find out that the Christians who are viewed as haters, were really just trying to help.(not talking about the true haters mentioned in your article. They are true haters, and they are not true Christians) That is my heart, and I know it is the heart of many other Christians.
I hear ya about some Christians. I am sorry they treat others in a horrible manner. It is not the true way of JESUS!
I have many homosexual friends. They know I am a Christian and I am aware of their lifestyle. I respect them as people without respecting that part of them. I love them whole heartedly.
Anyway, I can not change you, GOD HIMSELF has to do that. I do not know you, but I really have a true love for you. You are a human, created in the image of GOD and that makes you beautiful to me. GOD is the only true JUDGE. I am not! I am here to warn you only.
I will not be back to continue this talk, I love you as a person, I do not want to battle. It is not my place.
GOD Bless you Jen.
What I find interesting is how much the religious right is hung up about homosexuality when the bible actually has little if anything to say about it. I’m not a bible expert by any means but I do know that the few verses that do appear to talk about homosexuality can be interperated in a number of ways.
The “man lying with a man” pair of verses in Leviticus, for example. The word translated as “abomination” is the same word that is used to condemn eating shellfish or wearing blended fibers, which means that any “christian” that likes shrimp cocktail or wears wool-polyester is the same as an active gay man. Essentially, it is unkosher, and to an orthodox Jewish person who follows the letter of the law it is not to be done. However, I don’t see them screaming and condemning others.
Yes there are a couple of other places but they can be interperated differently also.
I personally believe God would not condemn a gay person just for being gay. Some of the more enlughtened denominations agree.
God isn’t the exclusive property of Christians.. Not by any means!
There are plenty of other scriptures from other religions that promote love and tolerance, and more than that, tolerance implies something wrong, doesn’t it?
In Hinduism and Buddhism, we’re all in this together, no matter what or who we are, and I like that so much better. They respect all other paths and ways of life, as all being a part of the Greater picture. Nobody is left out or made wrong in Buddhist or Hindu scripture. Nobody. Ever.
I am pretty sure that’s more God’s ideal way of seeing this than creating all this stupid intolerant nonsense.. Nobody is going to hell, other than what they create for themselves. Eastern religions focus more on responsibility for self, rather than making God some big angry other, far away and vengeful.
God is love, bliss, happiness, peace..
Personally I always like to remember this:
“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals, and 362 to heterosexuals. This doesn’t mean God doesn’t love heterosexuals, it’s just that they need more supervision.” -Lynn Lavner
Hahahaha!
There’s a website that talks about what the Bible says and doesn’t say about homosexuality. I found it to be very interesting. It’s written by a gay man (also a reverend) who is also a Christian. Though I’m not a Christian, I found it to be very thought-provoking. What he writes, and his interpretation of the Bible is very unique, and I think much more along the lines as far as God’s view on homosexuality. You can find it here if you like:
http://www.soulforce.org/article/homosexuality-bible-gay-christian
I firmly believe that homosexuality is NOT a choice, and I hardly think a loving God would think of it as a sin considering that it is the way He created them to be.
The church’s attitude towards homosexuality is part of why I am no longer a Christian.
People assume that God is somehow the exclusive property of Christians. And that the minority of Christians are the ones with the understanding. (S)He is not, and they are not.
God is not anybody’s property.
There are many more options open to homosexual people when considering what religion to be a part of, or what teachings tell you what God “apparently” thinks of homosexuality.
People’s perception of what ‘God’ is is so painfully and idiotically childish.
God is only love. Anything else than that is human ego and fear, based on our early childhood projections of the fear of our fathers in most cases, (God is even referred to as ‘Father’ in Christianity!) and inherently false. Worse, out and out lies and hate. That is evil, in my opinion, and has nothing to do with the root meaning of the word religion, which is ‘unity’.
